Quick answer
What is the difference between static and dynamic ADAS calibration?
Static calibration aligns a vehicle's sensors indoors against OEM-specified targets while the vehicle is stationary; dynamic calibration is done by driving the vehicle at set speeds so the sensors learn against real-world surroundings. Many vehicles need both — the manufacturer's procedure decides. FleetNorth performs both.
ADAS calibration basics
The fundamentals
What is ADAS calibration, and why does it matter?
ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) calibration is the precise alignment of a vehicle's cameras, radar, and sensors so safety features — automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping, adaptive cruise, blind-spot monitoring — operate to the manufacturer's exact specification. Even a few millimeters or a fraction of a degree of misalignment can cause a system to react late or in the wrong place. Calibration restores those systems to factory tolerance so the vehicle leaves the shop safe and in pre-accident condition.
What is the difference between static and dynamic calibration?
Static calibration is performed indoors with the vehicle stationary, using OEM-specified physical targets positioned at exact distances and heights on precision-leveled flooring. Dynamic calibration is performed by driving the vehicle on the road at set speeds and conditions while the manufacturer's scan tool teaches the sensors against real-world surroundings. Many vehicles require static calibration, dynamic calibration, or both in sequence — the manufacturer's procedure dictates which. FleetNorth performs both: static in our controlled Beverly facility and dynamic on-road validation when the procedure calls for it.
When does a vehicle need ADAS calibration after collision repair?
Calibration is required any time a sensor is removed, replaced, or its mounting position is disturbed — and often after work that seems unrelated to the sensor itself. Common triggers include front or rear bumper repair (radar), windshield replacement (forward-facing camera), mirror or quarter-panel work (blind-spot radar), and suspension, alignment, or ride-height changes (which shift every sensor's aim). When it isn't obvious, we scan the vehicle and confirm exactly which modules the OEM procedure requires calibrating.
Does windshield replacement require camera calibration?
In most late-model vehicles, yes. The forward-facing camera that powers lane-keeping, automatic braking, and traffic-sign recognition is mounted to the windshield. Removing and reinstalling the glass changes the camera's position relative to the road, so the manufacturer requires a calibration afterward. We confirm the specific requirement by VIN and perform the static and/or dynamic procedure the OEM specifies.
OEM compliance & quality
How we calibrate to specification
How does FleetNorth ensure OEM compliance?
Every calibration follows the vehicle manufacturer's published procedure for that specific make, model, and year — looked up by VIN, never estimated. We use OEM-specified targets and factory-level scan tooling, perform the static and dynamic steps the procedure requires in the correct sequence, and validate the result before sign-off. Static work is done on precision-leveled flooring in a controlled, climate-stable environment so results are repeatable. The completed procedure and its results are recorded in the support package that ships with the vehicle.
What equipment and environment do you use for static calibration?
Static calibrations are performed in our dedicated Beverly facility on precision-leveled flooring with OEM-specified physical targets set to the exact distance, height, and angle the manufacturer requires. A controlled, climate-stable indoor environment removes the variables — uneven ground, poor lighting, weather — that compromise calibrations done in a general repair bay or a parking lot, so every result is accurate and repeatable.
How do you confirm a calibration was successful?
After the calibration steps are complete, we verify that radar and camera inputs are synchronized and that every affected ADAS feature reports in-spec on the manufacturer's scan tool. The vehicle is not signed off until the systems pass validation. That pre- and post-calibration scan record becomes part of the documentation package, giving the shop and the insurer a clear, defensible confirmation that the work was completed to specification.
Documentation & insurance
Audit-ready records on every claim
What documentation do you provide for insurance audits?
Every calibration ships with a complete, audit-ready support package: the OEM procedure followed, pre- and post-calibration scan results, the targets and tooling used, and confirmation that each affected system passed validation. It's formatted for claims review and trusted by leading insurance organizations, giving the shop and the carrier a clear, defensible record on file if a calibration line item is ever questioned.
Does your documentation integrate with our estimating platform?
Yes. FleetNorth integrates live with CCC ONE, Mitchell, and Audatex at no extra charge. Calibration results and documentation flow straight into your work file automatically — no exporting, reformatting, or manual uploads — so the calibration is supported and the estimate stays defensible the moment the job is done.
How do you keep calibration pricing predictable and defensible?
We operate a single dedicated calibration facility with consistent workmanship and transparent, documented pricing rather than variable in-shop estimates. That means predictable calibration line items across every vehicle — the kind of consistent, ordinary-and-customary pricing that holds up under claims review, subrogation, and DRP program standards.
Can you help determine whether a repair actually requires calibration?
Yes — and getting that right protects everyone. We provide easy-to-use software, at no extra cost, that tells shops, insurers, and fleets exactly when a repair triggers an ADAS calibration. That means a required procedure is never missed and an unnecessary one is never billed, so the file stays clean for both the repairer and the carrier.
Scheduling & logistics
Getting a vehicle calibrated
How should a collision center schedule a vehicle for calibration?
Call our ADAS team at 978-981-1100, email adas@fleetnorth.com, or use the Schedule a Calibration form on this site. Send the VIN, the repair scope, and which sensors were affected — that lets us confirm the exact OEM procedure ahead of time, pre-draft a quote if one is required, and schedule the vehicle so it moves straight through calibration without sitting in your queue. We can take the vehicle at our Beverly facility, calibrate on-site at your shop, or arrange towing.
Do you offer mobile calibration, or is the work done at your facility?
Both. Procedures that require a controlled environment — most static calibrations — are best performed in our Beverly facility, where leveled flooring and OEM targets guarantee a repeatable result. For work that can be completed correctly on-site, we offer mobile calibration at your shop. We'll recommend the right setting for each vehicle based on the manufacturer's procedure so the calibration is done properly the first time.
Do you provide towing for vehicles that need calibration?
Yes. We run a dedicated towing fleet and offer free towing for vehicles coming to our Beverly facility, so a vehicle that needs a controlled-environment calibration never ties up your transport or delays delivery. Just include the pickup details when you schedule.
What is your turnaround time?
Calibration is scheduled and fast-turn by design, built around the cycle-time and DRP service expectations collision centers work to. Exact turnaround depends on the vehicle and whether static, dynamic, or both procedures are required, but our goal is always to keep the vehicle moving and get it back into delivery on schedule. When you send the VIN and scope up front, we confirm the timeline before the vehicle arrives.
Do you provide service in languages other than English?
Yes. FleetNorth delivers ADAS calibration service in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Mandarin, so neither the shop nor the customer loses anything in translation on a procedure this important.
